A ceremonial ground breaking was held for the Martin Luther King Older Adult Center on June 14. The new building, located at 21st Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue, across from the Martin Luther King Recreation Center, will provide expanded program space for the older adult community in the neighborhood.
The MLK Older Adult Center currently occupies space in the recreation center. At times, the Older Adult Center is able to utilize some of the Rec Center spaces to expand its offerings. However, attendance numbers are limited and the availability of programs for older adults is constrained by the needs of the Rec Center. In order to more fully serve the older adult constituency in this neighborhood, SMP has designed a new building to house only the Older Adult Center and its programs. The new Center will be constructed directly across the street, providing continuity for those currently served in the Rec Center.
