Ohiopyle Visitor Center Certified and Recognized
The visitor center at Ohiopyle State Park has achieved LEED Gold Certification. Incorporating an ecological wastewater treatement system, a ground coupled heating and cooling system, salvaged stone, and other responsible design strategies, the building serves to educate visitors on the significance of environmental awareness and decision-making within the natural setting of a state park.
The project was also awarded a 2015 Forever Green Award by the Central Pennsylvania chapter of the US Green Building Council (USGBC). The Forever Green Award recognizes the building for “Improving The Acceptance of Green” by incorporating incorporating a variety of environmentally responsible design and construction strategies into the visitor experience. Built for Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the visitor center is a gateway to the Laurel Highlands region of Pennsylvania and was designed to introduce visitors to the area and to communicate messages of environmental stewardship.
