SMP started working on an exterior envelope assessment at McPherson Square Library, for Rebuild Philadelphia.
McPherson Square Library was opened on May 25,1917 on the site of a historic park adjacent to Kensington Avenue.
Funded by the Carnegie Corporation, the building was designed by a prominent architectural firm, Wilson Eyre & McIlvaine, in the style of “an elegant domed Palladian Villa.” The building is one of 20 surviving Carnegie Libraries in Philadelphia, which were designated as the “Carnegie Library Thematic Historic District” by the Philadelphia Historic Commission in 2021!

SMP Architects had an eventful day with our young visitor from olma_nj!

We talked about design, drawings and drafting, renderings and went on a site visit to an under-construction project! 👩🚒👨🚒
P.S. – we also had a lovely lunch in the park while talking about the fun (and struggles!) of architecture school
